Peace Lutheran Pre-School/Young 5's

"Childhood is a journey, not a race"
- Peace Lutheran Pre-School/Young 5's; A journey with Jesus

Welcome to Peace Lutheran School, Pre-School and Young 5's Programs. My name is Suzanne Slane, the Program Director and Teacher, and my assistant is Sandy Meyka.

We provide a Christian Environment, as well as a social and academic program.   Our Young 5's Program meets Monday through Friday from 12:00 - 2:30 p.m.  The four year olds meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:30 - 11:-00 a.m.  The three years olds meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 - 11:00 a.m. We ask that when you bring your child to school, to come five minutes before class time and that when you come to pick up your child you meet them near the Narthex (Church) doors. You may come into the building or you may pull your car up and we will bring your child out to you.

DISCIPLINE POLICY

Our Discipline Policy has been that if a child is doing something that is not acceptable they are made aware of what they have done wrong. If they continue, they are placed in a time-out chair for a short period of time. If they continue with unacceptable behavior the parent will be notified.

DRESS CODE
The Dress Code for Pre-School and Young 5's is casual. Please dress them knowing that their day may consist of painting, using the water table, using mud, etc. Wear clothing that you will not be afraid should they get themselves dirty. Please have your child wear tennis shoes also. If we should go outside tennis shoes work better to run and climb on the playground equipment. In the winter, please have your child prepared in case the weather permits us to go outside (boots, gloves, hat, etc).

PARTIES

We basically have five parties, Fall Festival, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines and End of the Year. Usually we have one or two parents volunteer to help with the party. All the children will choose something from a list to bring in for the party.

SNACK

Everyday we have a time set for snack. Once a month a Snack calendar will be sent home. Depending on the amount of children in the class you may be responsible for providing snack once every one or two months. Please bring in a nutritional snack, (please no candy unless it's a celebration), and also, enough napkins, and cups for each child in the class.

BIRTHDAYS

We also celebrate your child's birthday. We try to have your child's special day placed closest to their actual day and put it on the snack calendar. If your child has a summer Birthday we will then celebrate it either at the beginning of the year or near the end of the school year.

FIELD TRIPS

We do not go on any field trips, but we do have someone come to the school for special programs.

GETTING READY FOR SCHOOL

  • If your child is a three year old, they need to be potty trained. They need to be able to go to the bathroom and pull up their own pants. If there is a difficult button or snap and they need assistance, we will then help.
  • If your child is a four year old, they should be able to do the following things: dress themselves, be able to sit, usually a reasonable period of time, begin to follow directions, sing, know how old they are, etc.

THE "GIVE ME FIVE" GAME

  1. SIT STILL
  2. HANDS AND FEET QUIET
  3. EYES WATCHING
  4. LIPS CLOSED
  5. EARS LISTENING
When it is time to focus or change activities, we play the "give me five" game.
