1. Have your child get a good night sleep. A good bedtime for kindergarten would be 8:00. Have a routine before bed to get them ready to sleep. First, give them a bath, next have a little snack, next read and cuddle together in bed, finally say prayers together. Kiss your child goodnight and then let them go to sleep with soft music playing.
2. Make sure your child eats breakfast before school. Your child needs food to fuel their bodies. When your child does not eat, she slows down. Her brain needs food to learn. This could be a glass of milk and a granola bar, cereal, fruit, etc. When a child is whiny it is usually because they did not get enough sleep or didn't eat breakfast.
3. Read to your child. Studies show that how well a child reads depends on how many books they have been read to. So, snuggle in a good chair and read some good books. You can also stop and have your child read the popcorn words that we have learned.
4. Take time for your child. When a child is constantly getting time-outs in my classroom, I suggest to the parent that when they are good in school, they get rewards by spending one on one time with mom or dad. This can include going on walks, going to the library, playing a game, or just taking time with your child. In all the cases, the child starts acting good in school. They just needed some attention. Life can get busy, please take time with your child. They don't stay little long.
5. Teach your child to be responsible. Allow your child to do chores at home. Let your child clear his plate from the table. Let your child pick out his clothes the night before. Let your child put their own jacket on. Have your child hang up their backpack at school. By allowing them to do these things, they feel good about themselves because they can do it.
6. Love your child. God blessed you with your child. God made them exactly how He wants them to be. He loves them very much. Show your love to your child through hugs, kisses, and lots of laughter.
7. Pray for your child. With Gods help, you will be a great parent.
