New
Beginnings
Last week we talked about starting school, how different children get to and from school and what it means to be a kindergartener. We went over our classroom rules and started learning how to work at our math and writing centers. We had a wonderful first week! Thank you for all of your support and prayers.
Reading
We began talking about the alphabet and worked on our listening skills this week. One thing that you may want to practice with your child at home is our special way to sing the alphabet. All letters are sung slowly except W. It goes: ABCDEFG/HIJKLMN/OPQ/RST/UVW/XYZ. Now I never will forget how to say the alphabet. The (/) indicates a pause where you clap.
Jesus Time
Jesus Blesses the Children
During Jesus Time, we talked about the time when Jesus blessed the children. We shared the many blessings that God gives us each day. Share with your child the daily blessings that you are given. This helps remind each of us of God’s abundant love for us.
(Jesus said) “Let the little children come to Me.” Mark 10:14
Math
During Calendar Time, we started counting the days we’ve been in school. In this first month of school, the children will be given several opportunities to work with different math manipulatives. The objective is for them to become familiar with these materials and use them in a creative way. Later in the year, we will use the same materials for math lessons.
