During the month of March, the Stephen Series training class will be learning about individuals dealing with the “Confidentiality”, “Stress of Hospitalization”, “Aging”, and “Long Term Care.” In these presentations the class will be talking about traumatic experiences, the special problems and special gifts of older persons, and how these special problems can be ministered to in a respectful way.
This coming week the Stephen Series training class at St. Lorenz will be considering the subject of “Ministry to the Dying, Their Family and Friends.” In this presentation they will be hearing about how people emotionally react to the fact that they are dying, and how caring Christian ministry can help people to die with dignity.
It’s Okay to be Human . . . An important theme of the Lenten season is the humanity of Christ. In Jesus, God became human and fully experienced the wide range of emotions we all encounter in life. Jesus experienced times of loneliness, sadness, hurt, anger, disappointment, grief, and abandonment. That is part of being human. Another part of being human is needing help from each other. God never intended us to be completely self-sufficient. Part of God’s plan is for each of us to turn to others for help when we need it.
The six individuals who are receiving Stephen Series training classes at St. Lorenz considered this past week the subject of “Ministering to Those Experiencing Grief “. In this presentation, they were helped to realize that grief can be a healthy thing, and taught to recognize and help people through the various stages in the process of grieving.
Sometimes Valentine’s Day Isn’t Happy For some people, Valentine’s Day is a painful reminder of a broken relationship, the death of a loved one, a recent relocation, a chronic illness, or another life challenge. If you are going through a difficult time, our Stephen Ministers can bring Jesus’ love (God’s “ultimate Valentine”) back into your life. Stephen Ministers provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care. They will meet with you privately on a weekly basis to listen, support, encourage you, to pray with and for you, and to walk with you for the duration of your struggle.
This coming week the Stephen Series training class at St. Lorenz will be considering the subject of “Crisis Theory and Intervention: Danger vs. Opportunity”. In this presentation they will be studying what happens when a person goes through a crisis, and how caring Christian ministry can help turn a potential danger into an opportunity for growth.
Are You Experiencing a “Winter” in Your Life? In addition to the cold weather outside, many people experience “winters” in their personal lives. A recent loss through death, divorce, or relocation may leave them feeling lonely. A hospitalization, cancer diagnosis, or ongoing medical problems may leave them feeling isolated. The loss of a job, the fear of layoffs, or a financial setback can devastate one’s self-esteem. Family and personal struggles may leave them with nowhere to turn for support.
If you are going through a difficult time, our Stephen Ministers can bring God’s warm love back into your life. They provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care. They will meet with you privately on a weekly basis to listen, support, and encourage you, to pray with and for you, and to walk with you for the duration of your crisis.
“Christ Caring for People through People” is the motto of Stephen Ministry. The Stephen Minister’s role is to bring God’s love into the lives of people who are going through a difficult time or experiencing a crisis. What do Stephen Ministers do? They listen to you, care for you, support and encourage you, and pray with and for you. And in the midst of this confidential, one-to-one caring relationship, God’s healing love comes pouring through.
An exciting adventure in learning and doing ministry began this past weekend. A group of Stephen Series Ministers have begun the task of studying, discussing, experiencing, and trying out the skills involved in sharing God’s love and compassion with those who especially need these gifts. Let us thank God for these ministers and ask His continued help and blessing in their adventure.
Caring, Committed People Needed! Have you ever wanted to be intimately involved in a ministry of your own, but just did not know how, or where, or with whom? St. Lorenz Stephen Ministry has plans to begin in January, 2009 training of Stephen Ministers to do just such a caring ministry.
The Rewards of Being a Stephen Minister are: 1) They joy and satisfaction of participating in meaningful ministry and of serving Jesus. 2) The friendship and support of the Christian community they develop in training and supervision. 3) Personal growth through the training, service, and supervision. 4) Enhanced relationships with family, friends, co-workers, and others. 5) Greater interpersonal relationship skills that prove valuable at work and in other activities. 6) Increased faith in God, dedication to Jesus, and enjoyment of their religious life.
EXCITING OPPORTUNITY! St. Lorenz needs men and women of our congregation who are willing to answer Jesus’ call to serve as Stephen Ministers, which begins with 50 hours of stimulating and useful training in Christian care giving skills. While being a Stephen Minister requires commitment of time and effort, it also brings joy and fulfillment. It may be one of the most rewarding challenges you will ever embrace.
Me a Stephen Minister? The Stephen Series, a program for enabling people to do caring ministry, will begin training lay ministers soon. Is this for you? Do you care about people? Do you have a desire to pass on to others the love that God has shown to you? Do you want to learn to know yourself better? If you answered YES to these questions, then the Stephen Series is for you. A training class for Stephen Ministers is beginning January, 2009.
“I Can’t Be a Stephen Minister!” Anytime some new challenge shows up, the “I can’t” phrase is bound to be nearby. You may have heard about Stephen Ministry, realized that you do have the gifts, the commitment, and the desire necessary to be a Stephen Minister, and you even may have felt God’s tap on your shoulder. But you still aren’t sure. Give prayerful consideration to joining the training session beginning January, 2009. Countless times Stephen Ministers have said something like, “I signed up as a Stephen Minister to serve others, but what I have found is that I have received much more from my care receiver, my fellow Stephen Ministers, my Stephen Leaders, and my growing relationship with God than I ever put into this ministry.”
Caring, Committed People Needed! Have you ever wanted to be intimately involved in a ministry of your own, but just did not know how, or where, or with whom? Saint Lorenz Stephen Ministry has plans to begin in January, 2009 training of Stephen Ministers to do just such a caring ministry. The Stephen Ministry series is a complete system for training and organizing lay persons to give distinctively Christian care to people who need it, both in the congregation and in the community. Here is your opportunity to be part of a special ministry.
The following individuals with a Prayer Pager have requested your prayers.
After praying, please call their pager number and press * when asked for a message. This will inform them that a prayer has been said on their behalf.
Attention, Men of the Congregation! You know how the love of Jesus has been a very important part of your life. That knowledge and assurance needs to be shared with other men in need. If you are looking for an opportunity to develop your caring potential, choose to become a Stephen Minister by signing up for a training series beginning January, 2009.
When the crisis never ends . . . many people face a chronic crisis every day of their lives. Whether they are caring for a sick family member, going through a long period of unemployment, or experiencing incurable pain, they and their families may benefit from the support and care of a Stephen Minister. Our congregation is committed to providing care to those who need it.
The Stephen Ministry Mission Statement states, "The purpose of Stephen Ministries is to proclaim through word and deed the Gospel of Jesus Christ by nurturing, edifying, educating, and equipping the whole people of God who are called, gifted, and sent to be ever more effective servants in caring for the needs of the whole person." We thank the Almighty for granting 20 years of the aforementioned purpose that Stephen Ministry provides to St. Lorenz and the community.
To receive a Stephen Minister's care, call Pastor Dale Ahlschwede at 652-6141 or Jeannette Stange at 652-0567.
NEW TRAINING CLASS FOR STEPHEN MINISTERS OFFERED JANUARY, 2009!
New in town? All that you've seen of your neighbor is the blue care and the white dog. You miss our old friends and there aren't any new ones yet. But you have found the Church. We'll send you a Stephen Minister to help with these first difficult months.
Did you realize...that the average crisis lasts for about six weeks? By th end of a month and a half, people usually come to some solution. Sometimes the solutions are good. But sometimes they just cause more painful problems. Stephen Ministry can help people find a positive resolution to crises.
ChristCare is looking for members of St. Lorenz who want to grow in their faith and do that with a small group of other people. ChristCare provides the training and support so you do not have to have had previous experience of leading a small group. Prayerfully consider this opportunity.
Invisible. Sometimes we feel like this - as if no one sees us or cares about us. We feel lonely, forgotten. When you feel like this, a Stephen Minister can give you the caring Christian concern and listening you need.
Did you know... that after the loss of a loved one, it often takes two full years to recover from grief? And the first year can be all downhill. Stephen Ministers are trained and willing to care for others through this time of great loss.
When your world turns upside down... a Stephen Minister can be there with you.
Divorce, death, losing a job... all of these are crises that can be overwhelming. A Stephen Minister is ready and willing to care for you or a friend during difficult times like these.
Summertime Stress Slowing You Down? We like to think of summer as being a relaxing, enjoyable time. But hurts, struggles, crises, and problems don't take a vacation. Many times our difficulties seem even worse during the summer because everyone else seems to be enjoying life while you are feeling down. If you are experiencing a difficult time - emotionally, spiritually or relationally - you don't have to suffer alone. Our Stephen Ministers are trained caregivers, ready to listen, care for and encourage you, pray with and for you, and provide one-to-one Christian care to help you through whatever it is that you are facing. Men are matched with male Stephen Ministers and women are matched with female Stephen Ministers. It's free. It's confidential. And it will make a difference in your life!
I get by with a little help from my friends . . . remember the Beatles song? We all need a concerned caring friend at difficult times in our lives. A Stephen Minister can listen and care for you or for someone you know who is going through a tough time.
What do Stephen Ministers do? They offer caring Christian friendship and concerned listening to people when they need it most. To find out more about Stephen Ministry, or to receive a Stephen Minister's care, call Pastor Dale Ahlschwede at 652-6141 or Jeannette Stange at 652-0567.
Decisions. What should I do with my life? What does God want me to do? How can I know? A Stephen Minister can serve as a listening ear while you explore these questions.
Just as a Mother cares for her children by listening and being there for them in times of stress, so do Stephen Ministers provide care. If one allows them to come, a Stephen Minister can be there for those individuals experiencing stress or any tribulations in their lives.
The world has shrunk to a single room. You don't get out much - your condition won't allow it. there aren't too many visitors anymore. A Stephen Minister would like to visit, listen, share your pain, and help you discover new ways to cope.
"Why don't you try this?" When you're going through tough times, the advice flies thick and fast. But often it isn't advice you need - it's caring. Stephen Ministers are trained to give this care by listening instead of pushing advice.
What a great small group! Do you remember a great small group that you were a part of? Maybe you currently are in one. Help others to benefit from the same experience by training as a ChristCare Leader.
ChristCare is always looking for new leaders to expand the ChristCare ministry at St. Lorenz. If you are interested in learning more about training as a leader this fall or just would like more information on what ChristCare is, please contact one of the Equippers: Elaine Gehm 652-3978, Karen Grasel 652-2558, Steve List 652-2248, Bob Zeilinger 652-9617 or Pastor Bender 652-6141.
Have you wanted to be involved in a mission close to home but didn't know where to start and/or have the time or energy to organize it?
We all know someone. Someone in crisis that doesn't know where to turn. Tense, upset, worn out --- needing someone to talk with, someone to care. You'd like to help. But how?
Did you know that to be a leader of a ChristCare group does not require you to be an expert on the Bible? Did you know that ChristCare Group Leaders receive special training to lead a small group Bible Study? Leaders who have gone through the training have been glad they did. They also had fun and made new friends along the way. Consider being a ChristCare Leader.
MEMORIAL DAY May we remember in our prayers the men and women who have served and are serving in the military protecting us from harm, and protecting the freedom God has granted us. In appreciation, God has provided St. Lorenz with a group of trained men and women in the Stephen Ministry program to provide for those individuals who have returned to the community in need of a confidential listening and caring friend.
Growth - Flowers and plants need care and nurturing to grow. People do too. Being part of a ChristCare group can provide you with that special kind of care.
St. Matthew says that at the last judgement Jesus will say these words, “For I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in; I was naked, and you clothed me; I was sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.”
In appreciation of our Stephen Ministry program reaching its 20th Anniversary, a special banquet is being planned to recognize all past and current Stephen Ministers. this banquet will occur on Monday, April 14, 2008 at the Bavarian Inn.
Did you know that to be a leader of a ChristCare group does not require you to be an expert on the Bible?
Stephen Ministry at St. Lorenz has been blessed with 20 years of sering their fellow brothers and sisters. This blessing has occurred because of the prayers that have been given by St. Lorenz members, their support in donations, the special gifts that our Stephen Ministers share with each other and their care-receivers. Stephen Ministry requests continued prayers and financial support be made to keep this special caring program alive and well for years to come.
ARE YOU EXPERIENCING A “WINTER” IN YOUR LIFE?
This coming week the Stephen Series training class at St. Lorenz will be considering the subject of “Dealing with Depression”.
If you or someone you love is struggling with chemical dependency or addictive behaviors, St. Lorenz is offering a confidential and Christ-centered recovery group to help you and your family heal the wounds that addiction inflicts.
If you or someone you love is struggling with chemical dependency or addictive behaviors, St. Lorenz is offering a confidential and Christ-centered recovery group to help you and your family heal the wounds that addiction inflicts.
The following individuals with a Prayer Pager have requested your prayers.
Are you experiencing a challenge in your life? Would you like others to pray for you? Would you find strength and comfort in knowing when another prayer has been said on your behalf for your special request?
