There is no charge to attend Advent by Candlelight, but we do believe in
“paying forward” God’s love in a tangible way.
Aged-Out Youth in Saginaw County
Oftentimes, those who turn 18 while in foster care (“aging out” of the program) have little or no family support. Working with the supervisors in the Department of Human Services (DHS), we are able to help. Some kids are able to live independently, or rent rooms in people’s homes. If they receive help and supervision from the DHS, they are required to attend school or work. DHS would like to provide a gift card or other items of basic necessity---but there are no government funds in place to do this. The supervisors depend on private donations, sometimes out of their own pockets. If you would like to help out, please bring a donation with you to Advent by Candlelight.
Also: We are able to include a Christian greeting with each gift card!
Cash donations: Your monetary gift is important because it will be met with a $1000 match from the Franconian Chapter of Thrivent for Lutherans! Checks should be made payable to St. Lorenz. We use the donations to purchase gift cards through our school SCRIP program.
Toiletries: Same basic things you’d buy for yourself or your kids.
Household Items: Towels, dishcloths, pots and pans, silverware, cooking utensils, etc. These may be new or gently used. Dishsoap, paper plates, or any other practical items!
Many agencies are overwhelmed with gifts and collections during the Christmas holidays. This is not one of them. Thank you for your continued support of these young people. Those we work with in the Department of Human Services office are very appreciative of these gift cards and the good they do!
